UPDATE: Excited to announce my booklet is now available!
It's about how to set up a space in your home for using Froebel ® Gifts, how to support math development for preschool and 6 - 9 year olds while having fun playing with blocks, and shows examples of some of the other academic topics that can be explored using the Froebel ® Gifts.
Also recommended are these free resources from FroebelUSA.
I'd love to make one more, for 9 - 12 year olds, maybe someday.

I'm starting a Three Little Pigs story.
Here's a pig made with the new plain wood tiles from Red Hen Toys, and a pig skeleton.

Birthday Pineapple - Drawn first, then built with tiles and sticks.
It's hard to see the drawing - it's one of mine from 1966: an adorable pineapple and a bunch of grapes. Spelling of 'Birthday' was memorized, but 'Fruit' is spelt by sound.
If a simple tally or graph isn't challenging anymore, children can be asked to count the total # of pieces (77), how many of them are yellow (55), and to estimate the percentage of each color that makes up the total. |
Map of an Animal Cell

A greeting card was my model for this holiday prompt. Students building with tiles, sticks, and points can tally and document, calculate percentages, practice skip counting, and more, as per earlier examples.
Younger children can trace around their hand and build with boxes 3, 4, 5, or 6 to make Turkey Houses.
All work can be photographed. Print these on sticker paper. Add thin magnet (I used a sticky-back magnet designed for business cards) and spray with clear fixative.
These are sweet little presents from children to their families' holiday decor.

I used all the orange points available, that's what that 100% refers to on the tally card. Happy Halloween!
Inspired by Marsh
College-friend, artist and musician Marsh made the T-shirt which I used as the inspiration for this build - photo below shows the well-worn and often-washed remainder of his beautiful work, which here evokes Australian aboriginal art.
